Garden News

Hi neighbor,

The houses on either side of the garden are vacant. The garden is fine.

I’m concerned about the houses and copper thieves. Please call 911 if
you see ANYTHING going on at either house. Both are spacious
family-friendly places. Refer some good tenants so we can get them
occupied soon.

Update on Oct 10th and news about KOFFEE KORNER

I met Brenda Wright (I’m pretty sure that is her last name) who has just opened the “Koffee Korner” right on Thomas and Broadway. It’s that teeny tiney little building across from True Vine Church. She has some sweet hearts and deco outside and she is selling not only coffee but wraps, sandwiches, soup, chili – all kinds of stuff, for very reasonable prices. It’s all take out at this point. The place is very small. Let’s support our local businesses! She’s open from 9 a.m.to 6 pm every day.

Brenda said that on the evening of the October 10th (when Jim and I are hosting the Introduction to the Landmark Forum at 6:30-9:30 at True Vine)She will stay open until 6:30 if people want to come in and grab a bite to eat and or to get coffee. If you buy a cup of coffee that evening she’ll give you a free donut to go with it!
We will have some juice and snacks at the event, but if you want caffeine, a donut or a light supper – stop by!

By the way, this is not a church or religious event. Jesse Griffin, the pastor at True Vine has been VERY GENEROUS and supportive of community in allowing neighbors to meet in the church.

Come one, come all. Bring your friends!

THERE WILL BE CHILDCARE! We have two awesome child care people to hang out nearby with your children.

The Leaves

Well, they are at it again. You know who I mean–the trees, of course.
They are at it, going ballistic in beauty over on the parkway.

Walking or cycling north on the path from McNair, you may witness some
sweetness in leaves. As you near the big hill, look to your left
(west). The vermillion hues on these splendid sunny days are a real
treat.

I’m copying a wonderful Mary Oliver poem below my signature, which
seems to fit here.

The life you lead is the lesson you teach–source unknown

In Blackwater Woods

Look, the trees

are turning

their own bodies

into pillars

of light,

are giving off the rich

fragrance of cinnamon

and fulfillment,

the long tapers

of cattails

are bursting and floating away over

the blue shoulders

of the ponds,

and every pond,

no matter what its

name is, is

nameless now.

Every year

everything

I have ever learned

in my lifetime

leads back to this: the fires

and the black river of loss

whose other side

is salvation,

whose meaning

none of us will ever know.

To live in this world

you must be able

to do three things:

to love what is mortal;

to hold it

against your bones knowing

your own life depends on it;

and, when the time comes to let it go,

to let it go.

Lost Cat

Good evening neighbors,

We realized this evening that we are missing our cat. She managed to
slip out of a screened window that we weren’t aware was loose. Her
name is Peek-a-boo (nickname, Peeky) and she is an adult female calico
who is declawed and very friendly.

We live in the 20XX block on Thomas Ave N and are looking all over for
her. We are obviously worried since she hasn’t eaten since last night
and she doesn’t have her claws to help defend herself. If you’ve seen
her please email me right away! Thank you!

Garage Break-Ins

Amy and Brian who live on 25th and Thomas Avenue North asked that I notify neighbors of 2 garage break-ins over the last 2 to 3 weeks, the last occurring today. Their garage drive-way is shared with residents on Upton Avenue North.

Bikes were stolen during the first break-in with no damage to the garage. Today the thieves used the garbage container to climb and break one of the decorative windows on the garage door where the automatic door was released to allow entry. The car was searched and money was stolen.

They wanted people to know about these break-ins and to be careful and watchful.

Peace,
TC

—–

i also had some kids break in to my garage and were in the process of taking two bikes when my fiance came home. they left in a hurry w/o the bikes. however, they did decide to smash a ceramic figurine of st. francis of assisi, and thought it would be nice to topple over the table in the backyard too. this happened about a week and a half ago. i’m on penn and 23rd.

Copper Thefts

2632 and 2640 Sheridan were broken into and the copper stolen over the last 5 days too.
